Birds and Blooms Abundant at Wellington Farm

Birds and Blooms Abundant at Wellington Farm

Saturday, June 15, 2024 (6:30 PM - 8:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

In addition for being a great to visit for history buffs, Wellington Farm USA is also and excellent opportunity for bird lovers.  Throughout the 60-acre park there is normally an abundant variety of birds.  Common birds like robins, sparrows, hawks and vultures can normally be seen but often other, lesser abundant varieties such as rose breasted grosbeaks, indigo buntings, scarlet tanagers. American redstarts and pileated woodpeckers pop into view.  The well traveled roads throughout the park often provide a good variety of birds  while the lesser traveled nature trails  provide an excellent opportunity for the avid bird watcher.  Lately a bald eagle has been observed sitting on the top of the cell tower which is located on the south side of the park.

Along with the birds, Wellington Farm USA is also ablaze with color provided by tastefully planted flower beds and an abundance of wild flowers.  Naturally, the spring beauties and trilliums are gone but the Solomon’s seal are coming into blossom and the wood ferns are abundant.

As an added event this year, Wellington Farm USA is offering a free evening opportunity for bird watchers and flower lovers.  The entire park will be available for walking from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16.  The park’s historic buildings will be closed but, there are no birds or flowers in them anyway.  Visitors should check in at the Welcome Center/Gift Shop however admission to the park for the evening is free for everyone.
